Batteries

Filed under: Wide Angle — cass @ 1:27 pm

I ran across a source for batteries that i want to share with you. You know digital cameras eat batteries like pez candies, and I get to share my rechargeables with all my kids toys, too, so I am always on the lookout for a good deal on them. USBatteries carries a huge selection, and they have free shiping on orders over $50. You know it doesn’t take long even at their prices to run up a $50 bill for batteries. I wish I had known about this site when I was looking for laptop batteries a couple of weeks ago! I could have saved myself shipping from China.

How many Pictures is that?

Filed under: Wide Angle — cass @ 3:52 pm

So how many pictures do I take? I had to empty my cards today. Since February 6th, I have taken enough to fill up a 512MB card. That’s a lot of photos, certainly more than I took before I embarked on this photo-blog journey.

Framed!

Filed under: Wide Angle — cass @ 4:06 pm

I would love to be able to show off more of my pictures. You know I take a lot of them! If you mouse over the latest one, you’ll see that I well into the 600s with a camera that I got at the end of December. That’s about 300 pictures a month, ya’ll. I use some of them as the screensaver on my computer, but I’d love to have a digital picture frame. Or eight of them. You know, one for each of the children’s photo shoots. If I had those, then I would not be stuck having to choose just the “one best shot” for the wall. But then I’d also need one for SPS and the PAD, and….well, my need for a digital frame is as long as my list of photo subjects.

The frames are really simple to work: You just put your memory card with pictures on it right into the frame, and that’s it. You can set the display time and transitions to suit your preferences. You can also use the frames to play video clips, and not just still pics.

This company also sells a wireless baby monitor with a cute dog camera. And they have live help via chat to help you pick the right product for your display needs. And right now, every time you purchase a 9 or 10 inch frame, you get a free 128MB memory card. How’s that for incentive to take more pictures?

I’m thinking it may not be too early to start my Christmas list.

Another Observation

Filed under: Wide Angle — cass @ 12:24 pm

I’ve noticed when doing portraits, both self and other, that when the camera is set to to fill flash, it will highlight any imperfection in your face. If you take many pictures using the portrait setting on your camera, it may be well worth it to invest in one of those makeup mirrors. the extra lighting can help you see what the camera will record. You’ll save a bunch of time that you would have spent air-brushing.

Handy Tool- Megapixel Chart

Filed under: Wide Angle — cass @ 12:44 pm

Here’s a tool that I found very helpful today. I was looking for a compromise between shots I could print at a decent, viewable size, and shots that ate up memory cards at an incredible rate. I used this Megapixel Chart to determine that the best setting for my camera and my photos is M1. This will allow a crisp photo for me at a bit bigger than 5×6. Since I print photos (if and when I ever print them) at 4×6, I’m good. That’s about 3 MP.

If I do a shoot on one of the children, hoping for a wall portrait, I can bump it up a bit, but for everyday use, this is fine.
