One of the things I meant to do this year was go to the Azalea Festival and take some pictures. It’s a great time of year to take pictures of the Wilmington NC real estate because of the riotous color. The whole town is awash in flowers, and looks like a giant party hat. Of course, that’s because it’s a giant three day party, LOL! But, no: I didn’t realize it was Azalea Festival weekend until the Monday after it was over. Cause…I was busy, and not paying attention to what was going on around me.
That’s happened to me several times this year, and it’s frustrating to look up, notice I’ve missed something, and know it will be at least a year before I have a chance to rectify my error. I’ll be writing festival dates in my calendar from now on.

A bunch of you! You guys are way cleverer than I am, LOL! Today’s PAD is indeed the inside of my smoke detector. The cheapie battery that came in it gave out today, and it started giving it’s death buzz. I took it down and removed the battery, and since I had not taken the PAD yet, I thought I’d be clever and mysterious. Apparently I’m neither clever nor mysterious, because ya’ll didn’t even need a key to unlock the puzzle.
Often amazing images are just a matter of changing the angle, of looking at things a little differently. I saw a picture yesterday, I forget where, shame on me, and I looked at it and looked at it, and I finally figured out what it was: a toadstool. The photographer had apparently put the camera on the ground, and photographed the mushroom from below. The image was captivating before I know what it was, and even more stunning afterward.
It just goes to show that you don’t need a Baltimore Locksmith to unlock the secret of good photography; you just need to think outside the box.

Have I mentioned that I would love to take pictures in Hawaii? My friend Skeet lives there (she plays along with us on Self Portrait Sunday) lives there, and she posts the most amazing pictures. When I posted the picture of the tigerlily yesterday, I was actually thinking about the flowers there. I could do that one day, if I could afford the trip. The Hawaii vacation rentals offered by Gebhart sound so marvelous. They are spacious and luxurious, and offer all the amenities of home. Well, actually better than home, because all the normal everyday hassles of home stay there, LOL. Imagine, a 3BR/3BA penthouse located at the Waikoloa Beach Resort with 2,576 square feet of living space in paradise, and all you have to worry about is sunscreen and memory cards.

I know I talk about places I would like to photograph often, but….well, my very good friend said to me just the other day that she thought if I did not have kids, I’d not stay long in one place. I’m still digesting exactly what to do with that, but….it brings me around to this next topic: vacation international points.
See, the cool thing about the vacation points is that they can be used to go anywhere. I could go to Hawaii, as I mentioned the other day. I could go to Paris. I could go….almost anywhere I wanted to go, me and my camera. I could take pictures of people who didn’t make moonie faces the instant they saw the camera. (I admit, the kids are mostly over that now- -even the baby makes the shutter clicking sound these days, though, LOL!)

You may not often think of it as such, but moving provides lots of interesting photo ops. Different textures, as boxes are packed. Interesting angles as they are (sometimes precariously) stacked. And the faces! Oh my, but you’ll catch expressions then that you will not see at any other time. That’s because moving is stressful.
Secure Network can help with that last part. They have gathered together a group of long distance moving companies, all of whom are licensed and insured. And, they will save you money, because they have pre-negotiated discounts of up to 65%. That will put a smile on your face. You may miss the chance to take pictures of your family members on the hairy edge of a serious mental melt-down, but you are willing to make that sacrifice, right?

I wanna go on a cruise. Strictly for photographic purposes, of course. I’m thinking of a photo-essay type thing, starting with the berthed ship, and ending with a shot taken back over the shoulder as you disembark for the last time. I’ve seen photos taken on cruises before, but never a whole series to tell the whole story. I think it could be done in such a way that words would be almost superfluous, given enough memory cards and batteries.

One day, I would love to go on a walking tour of downtown in the city next door. There are some marvelous older homes in our area, and I would love to photograph some of them. Many of them look somewhat like this one I pulled off the Beaufort NC real estate site, only older, and with a bigger porch. During the spring, they are surrounded by flowers like this one is, and they are just beautiful.

I’ve talked before about some of the places I’d like to photograph, and here’s another: I’d love to go back to Italy, and take a camera. I’ve been once before, in my junior year of high school. I was young and foolish enough then to think that buying postcards would be a fine substitute of taking my own photographs. What I didn’t count on was that I would meet people I wanted to remember, or see things that were quite interesting even though no one had bothered to put them on a postcard. So, one day, when I am a rich and famous photographer, I’d like to rent out a couple of villas in Italy (one in the north and one in the south), and take a month’s worth of photos.

The family was watching Vegas earlier tonight. Man, I love the theme music from that show. I also like the lead in video sequence. I think it would be fun to do a night shoot there. Trying to capture the detail of both the people and the lights would be a neat challenge. I am reading in Photography for Dummies about that right now. I’m not ready to look at Las Vegas Real Estate just yet, but it would be a fun thing to do later.
What, you thought I forgot I was supposed to be reading? Hardly! Have a little faith people!
